Where To Go Birding

Regional NSW & ACT l Sydney Region

The New South Wales and ACT regions have a great variety of habitats and birdlife to explore and enjoy. This page has a number of links to online material and printable PDF documents.

Regional New South Wales

If you are travelling or planning a birding holiday within NSW or the ACT you should check Bird Routes to assist you in finding a variety of birds in the location(s) you are visiting. Bird Routes are locally produced maps within regional NSW and ACT featuring prime birding sites, directions to the locations, the key birds you are likely to see on the route, and often include a bird list of the area. Click on the map below for information about your destination.

The Sydney Region

You don't have to go far from Sydney to find some good places to go birding. In most cases, these areas are easily reached by public transport. The region features a variety of habitats from rainforest and woodland to wetland or heath to swamps. There are also good seabird watching spots. All of these can be found within 20 kilometers of the city centre. Travelling a little further afield can deliver some excellent birding locations. These areas inclue the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury regions: both homes to quite different avifauna.
